Invoranan to Kings House

Today we left the Invoranan Hotel to reach Kings House, 11 miles. Road was cobbled and easy at the start. We headed into the Black Mount moors between the two. We passed the Victorian Hunting Lodge which controlled that area. There are no trees in this area except the ones that are planted, usually in one area, which makes it look like little forests dotted among the country side. It is warm and sunny on this day, but the breeze in the higher spots is welcome. The midges love the heat and come out in droves when the air is still. We passed some peat bogs, but didn't have to wade through them, thankfully. The steep pass heading into Rannoch Moor goes up 1487 feet. The climb was tough but the beauty looking back and into Rannoch made it almost seem worth the pain of the climb. Once at the top, we could see Kings House below, which was about 3 miles down. We could also see the A, a secondary highway, weaving along down below us. As we descended, The Glencoe Ski Center came into view above us. Internet at Kings House was in one spot only. Everywhere else was non existent. Trying to post a blog was a waste, as the Internet would just randomly shut off completely. This was especially frustrating when trying to make reservations on line, being in the middle of paying and then have it disappear all together. We take it for granted at home, but come to appreciate a lot of what we have in the US when you go without here. Of note on this day: the deer that live here are strange and weird. They have somehow become people oriented and walk right up to anyone near them, looking for a hand out. They show no fear. Who knows what strange foods they consume. Don't know if they will eat grass....ha ha. Our rooms look out over Stob Dearg, a great view to both go to sleep and wake up to. Being so far north, we don't see darkness until after 11 and it gets light before 4:00 a.m. So tomorrow we head to Klinlochleven where we will spend two nights to prepare for the last and final leg of this hike. We almost done!
